The Economics of Card Brands
Old Line Bank Stands Tall in the Debit Revolution
In 1776, the American Revolutionary War had just begun when the Maryland 400 sacrificed their lives to save the rest of the Continental Army. General George Washington referred to the Maryland unit as his "Old Line.” Today, Bowie, Md.-based Old Line Bank serves as a reminder of those heroic forefathers, and its debit program is an example of another revolution that is shaking up the status quo.
Fed up with high fees and unnecessary complexity, Old Line Bank declared its independence from legacy network providers, switched to Discover® Debit and introduced the Old Line Bank Debit Card. The move resulted in greater profitability, simplified billing and dedicated support, not to mention the cornucopia of benefits for customers, including real-time fraud detection and price protection.
"For many executives, looking at and understanding their debit program is not exactly their comfort zone, but you have to get in there," said James W. Cornelsen, President & CEO of Old Line Bank. "The cost savings in the Discover decision are very substantial."
